There's a lot of hope and happiness, in the music of the day. This set sounds just like what I heard, years later (1978), for the first time, in Knoxville, Tennessee, just after the first time I dropped acid. I knew there was something going on that I wanted to be part, but couldn't. I was child, when this was stuff was recorded, but, later in the 1968, I was literally at the corner of Haight and Ashbury (my father was among the curious - he was out there for seminary up in San Anselmo). It's pretty good, certainly live and not a studio-quality recording, but, I really liked it, too. I'm no afficianado - I think I'm hearing China Cat Sunflower. It gets a little ragged, herein, on those-type cuts. I'm not a fan of the likes of the "Little School Girl" and other fun stuff that many other Dead fans enjoy. The "Dark Star" gets a little atonal, at times, but is decent. Typical clear Jerry guitar on that track. The "Morning Dew," on this set is excellent. A friend gave me a copy of 02-14-68 Carousel Ballroom and I gave it a chance. Before that day I thought of GD as bullshit hippy music. Studio!! Do you even know what this site is?
